Silver Creek Fire Update 8-24-18

Structures Lost: 0
Injuries: 0
Fire Size: 4745 (unchanged for 3 days)
Containment: 27% (unchanged from yesterday)
Personnel: 412

Warmer temperatures and increased sunshine are expected over the Silver Creek Fire area today. The fire remains 4,745 acres and 27% contained. Firefighter and public safety remain the top priority of this full suppression fire.

Around the fire perimeter, crews will continue to improve and strengthen firelines while mopping up and putting out hot areas at the edge of the fire. Work to improve fireline on the west side of Old Park subdivision should be completed today as crews continue to reduce possible fuel sources near that bulldozer-created fuel break. Fireline repair work continues to improve drainage and prevent runoff in areas deemed safe and appropriate. Due to decreased fire activity, night operations ended with last night’s shift.

A weak high pressure system will develop in the area today. This will bring drier, warm air with sunny skies and highs in the low 70s. Westerly winds will be sustained at 7-10mph with gusts to 15mph possible. Relative humidity will be near 20% today.

The Routt National Forest emergency area closure remains in place. All hunters and recreating public are advised to view the revised closure at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/mbr/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb51396....

Emergency response traffic remains heavy near the Silver Creek Fire; please follow all closures and only travel where needed.

The Latigo Ranch area remains under an evacuation order; Old Park, and Gore Lakes areas continue to be under a pre-evacuation notice by the Grand County Sheriff. For the most current evacuation information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/GrandCountyOEM/?ref=br_rs or www.gcemergency.com.
